Questions families ask
How do I place my swimmer?
Book a placement visit. An instructor gets in the water with your swimmer, looks at comfort in the water, floating and kicking, and tells you which cap color to start in. A parent or caregiver stays for all of it.
What is a level?
A level is a short list of skills with a cap color, so everyone can see where a swimmer is. The instructor checks the list at the end of each session and tells you what comes next. Every swimmer moves at their own pace.
How long is a class?
A class lasts forty-five minutes. A session runs eight weeks, and the spring-break and summer weeks are shorter.
What should my swimmer bring and wear?
A swimsuit or a swim shirt, whichever your swimmer likes, and a towel. Tie long hair back or wear a cap. Goggles are welcome if your swimmer likes them. We provide boards, noodles and belts.
Where do I watch?
At the college pool, from the viewing bench above the deck. At the community pool, from the benches on the deck or at the lobby window.
Who is in the water with my swimmer?
An instructor is in the water or on the step beside every swimmer in the first levels, and in the water or at the wall in the later ones. The number of swimmers each instructor has in every level is on our safety page.
What if we miss a class?
A missed class can be made up in another class of the same level within the session, space allowing.
What if a pool closes?
We tell families by text when a pool closes for weather, repairs or a holiday. A class missed because a pool closed is made up in the same session.
Do I need to work at the college to join the lunch-hour class?
No. The lunch-hour class is open to adults who work at the college and to anyone else. Sign in at the pool door when you arrive.
How does tuition work?
It depends on the level, the class length and how many classes a week. Our current figures are on the enrollment page, and the page called How tuition works explains what each part is for.
