Family policies

What families ask before the first class.

In the pool, and watching

An instructor is in the water or on the step beside every swimmer in the first levels, and in the water or at the wall in the later ones. The number of swimmers each instructor has in every level is on our safety page. A parent or caregiver stays on site during every class and watches from the viewing bench at the college pool or the deck at the community pool. Lessons are no substitute for adult supervision.

What to wear and bring

A swimsuit or a swim shirt, whichever your swimmer likes; swim shirts are welcome in every class. Tie long hair back or wear a cap, bring a towel and, if your swimmer likes them, goggles. We provide boards, noodles and belts.

Watching class

Parents, caregivers, brothers and sisters are welcome on the deck benches or in the viewing area. Please keep them back from the edge of the pool and keep strollers and chairs out of the way of the door.

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

When to keep your child home

Please keep your swimmer home with a fever, a stomach bug or anything that spreads, and tell us so we can offer a make-up class.

Closures for weather and holidays

We tell families by text when a pool closes for weather, repairs or a holiday. The college's own break schedule applies at the college pool, and we share the dates when you register. A class missed because a pool closed is made up in the same session.

Leaving the program

Tell us by text or phone as soon as you know. We ask for a week's notice before a session begins so that we can offer the place to the next family on the waitlist.

Drop-off and pickup

Swimmers aged four and up are handed to their instructor at the pool door, and a parent or caregiver stays on site for the whole class. After class we hand each swimmer back to the adult who brought them, and we ask for ID from anyone we don't know.

Screens and phones

Please keep phones away from the water's edge. Photos of other families' swimmers are not allowed on the deck.
